Our Story

The story of our delicious and beautiful cakes, mousse gâteaux, pâtisseries, flaky Danish pastries, tarts, coffee cakes, and artisan breads is woven into the fabric of our family's culinary history, a legacy that begins before 1863, the year that our baking family, carrying with them the rich baking traditions of Europe, set foot on American soil. Their dream? To establish a bakery that would rise to become a beloved institution in the United States. Our retro-themed Dessert Diner and front-of-house store, described more below, is a nod both to this dream's realization, and to an iconic part of uniquely-American history and culture.

From the very beginning, our family has believed in the power of simplicity, holding steadfast to traditional baking techniques and allowing the natural alchemy of flour, water, yeast, and salt to work their magic. In all our baked goods, there is a promise of purity, of wholesomeness, and of integrity. We honor this promise by selecting ingredients that meet our exacting standards. Our cakes start with beautiful moist cake sponges, baked fresh daily using only five basic ingredients: cage-free eggs, pure cane sugar, pure butter, flour, and baking powder. Our frostings, mousses, and silken custards are made with fresh pure whipping cream, real butter, cage-free eggs, pure cane sugar, and pure vanilla extract, as applicable. Our pie crusts are made from 100% pure butter. And our artisan bread doughs are made from only the finest, four simple ingredients: flour, yeast, olive oil, and purified water—as pure and simply "clean label" as it gets.

Each of our dessert creations is meticulously hand-decorated by our talented team, ensuring that your dessert experience is as visually stunning as it is delicious to enjoy, and wholesome.

Our retro-themed "Dessert Diner" is an experience—the perfect place to satisfy your sweet tooth with our delightful treats and to capture memories with our Instagram- able spots (our Retro jukebox and neon-lit clocks are popular guest group photo and selfie backdrop favorites!). And because sweet cravings don't follow a schedule, Rick's is open late, ready to serve your sweet (and savory!) tooth whenever the desire strikes. As the sun sets, and long after other bakeries have closed, ours transforms into a vibrant haven for late-night indulgence.

Whether you're ending your day on a sweet note or starting your night with a dash of sugar, our Dessert Diner is the go-to destination for those picture-perfect moments and delectable delights. Our front of house also serves as a fully-stocked store, with five full-sized (almost to the ceiling) glass cases stocked full of our fresh-baked-daily decadent and delicious whole desserts, perfect for dessert enthusiasts.
